No, because you’re broke
Our Governor is a Democrat -was Lieutenant Governor under Blago-
Our Treasurer is a Republican -former State Senator
Oh, What fun!
So let’s all focus on what this veto session needs to be about:
• Chicago still stands to lose convention business — and thousands of jobs — because of the festering legal snarl over work rules and other problems at McCormick Place.
• A demonstrably corrupt tuition waiver program still lets legislators funnel free college educations to the children of their relatives, cronies and political contributors.
• And, for lack of reform, that overpromised public pension program still threatens to divert ever more dollars from spending on schoolchildren, Illinois State Police officers and our developmentally delayed fellow citizens.
Lawmakers, Governor Quinn, you can fix all three of these problems during the veto session.
What you cannot do is spend, or borrow, more money. Because, if you keep driving so recklessly toward $200 billion, you’ll look clueless about what you already have done to Illinois taxpayers.
No, lawmakers.
No, Governor Quinn.
Because you’re — we’re — broke.
